While the overall UK prize which York won in 2018 has made a surprising move south to Salisbury in Wiltshire this year, the Yorkshire capital remains the regional winner throughout the North and North East.

The city, at one time the seat of the Emperor of Rome and later a historic Viking settlement, is no stranger to plaudits as it also emerged as Britain's favourite city with a huge 92% approval rating in a YouGov opinion poll last year.
