Rugby League World Cup postponed to 2022 August 5, 2021

Huddersfield, birthplace of Rugby LeagueElland Road, Leeds, was to hold a semi-finalKCOM Stadium, Hull, was a quarter-final venueRiverside Stadium, MiddlesbroughHeadingley Stadium, LeedsThe Rugby League World Cup, which was due to feature several matches in Yorkshire, has been postponed until 2022.

The postponement decision announced this Thursday (August 5) followed the withdrawal of Australia and New Zealand from the competition amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

Yorkshire stadiums were to play a big part in the 2021 Rugby League World Cup. Games were planned in Doncaster, Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Sheffield and York.

Yorkshire was also to play a big part in hosting teams from 21 nations.

The competition will now be held in 2022, on dates a year than originally planned.

Fans with tickets for matches are due to be provided with details for ticket transfers or refunds within the next few days.
