Government creates its first Investment Zone July 16, 2023

The Government has created the first of a dozen Investment Zones it plans across the UK in South Yorkshire.

The scheme involving an announcement of £80m Government investment aims to help South Yorkshire become a number one place to start, scale or relocate a business.

The scheme aims to create an estimated 8,000 new jobs supported by private investments 15 times that amount by 2030.

The South Yorkshire Investment Zone will expand upon the existing Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District to incorporate Rotherham town centre and Sheffield city centre and will also involve Opportunity Sites in Barnsley and Doncaster districts.

Investors, developers and start-ups will be offered support and financial help to start, scale up and relocate businesses.

The first investment announced is a £80m-plus research project led by USA aircraft giant Boeing into manufacturing lightweight structures for aeroplanes.
