Three of the Yorkshire and Humber representatives elected to the European Parliament are politicians from the Brexit Party.

Making up the region's six MEPs are one representative each from Labour, the Liberal Democrats and Green parties.

Leeds Town Hall was used for the count in the government's Yorkshire and Humber regionThe Brexit Party had 470,351 votes across the Government region, Labour were second (210,516), closely followed by the Liberal Democrats (200,180) and Green Party (166,980). The Conservative were in fifth place (92,863). Other votes went to UKIP (56,100), The Yorkshire Party (50,842), Change UK (30,162) and English Democrats (11,283).

While the Brexit Party had a strong showing across almost the entire region, the Liberal Democrats were in first place in York (16,340), ahead of the Brexit Party (15,347) while the Green Party (11,423) came in third. Labour came in fourth (6,241) while the Conservative could only manage fifth place (3,357).

In Harrogate, the Brexit Party took the lead (16,039), but the Liberal Democrats also had strong support there (13,707) taking second place with more than double the vote of the third-placed Green Party (6,447) while the Conservatives (6,364) were pushed into fourth place and Labour fifth (2,248).

In Sheffield it was the Green Party that took second place after the first-placed Brexit Party (39,534) with 34,803 votes. The Liberal Democrats were third (25,366), Labour fourth (23,925) and UKIP fifth (5,408).

Barnsley: The Brexit Party (23,459), Labour (7,693), Liberal Democrats (4,618), Green Party (4,064), UKIP (2,899).

Bradford: The Brexit Party (33,567), Labour (32,399), Liberal Democrats (15,882), Green Party (12,401), Conservative (7,521).

Calderdale: The Brexit Party (18,838), Labour (9.724), Liberal Democrats (7,493), Green Party (6,902), Conservative (4,261).

Craven: The Brexit Party (6,302), Liberal Democrats (3,677), Green Party (3,091), Conservative (2,041), Labour (1,190).

Doncaster: The Brexit Party (30,016), Labour (11,393), Liberal Democrats (5,908), Green Party (4,898), Conservative (4,122).

East Riding: The Brexit Party (39,465), Liberal Democrats (13,976), Conservative (9,545), Green Party (8,558), Labour (6,051).

Hambleton: The Brexit Party (10,615), Liberal Democrats (5,389), Conservative (4,197), Green Party (3,599), Yorkshire Party (1,511).

Hull: The Brexit Party (18,572), Labour (7,832), Liberal Democrats (5,667), Green Party (3,887), UKIP (2,725).

Ryedale: The Brexit Party (6,190), Liberal Democrats (3,176), Green Party (2,115), Conservative (2,014), Yorkshire Party (899).

Scarborough: The Brexit Party (12,624), Liberal Democrats (4,017), Green Party (3,224), Labour (2,853), Conservative (2,528).

Selby: The Brexit Party (9,733), Liberal Democrats (3,803), Green Party (2,490), Conservative (2,480), Labour (2,035).

Wakefield: The Brexit Party (33,173), Labour (12,661), Liberal Democrats (7,472), Green Party (5,923), Yorkshire Party (4,381).

The Yorkshire and Humber region also includes North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.

Voting took place on Thursday May 23 to decide on MEPs who will provide representation for Yorkshire and the rest of the UK in the European Parliament for a five-year term or while the UK remains a member of the European Union.

Constituencies in the European election are based on regions, placing most of Yorkshire in the Government's Yorkshire and Humber region where 6 MEPs are elected.

A few parts of historic Yorkshire are in the North East region where 3 MEPs are elected, this time 2 Brexit Party and one Labour MEP. A few parts of Yorkshire are in the North West region where 8 MEPs are elected, those being 3 Brexit Party, 2 Labour, 2 Liberal Democrats and one Green Party MEP.

A total of 73 MEPs are elected from the UK, nearly one-tenth of the 751 MEPs elected across the 28 member states of the EU.

MEPs are elected through proportional representation with the winning candidates selected from ordered lists drawn up by their respective parties, depending on votes cast for those parties. Fielding candidates in Yorkshire and the Humber were: Change UK, Conservatives, English Democrats, Green Party, Labour, Liberal Democrats, The Brexit Party, The Yorkshire Party and UKIP.
