Leeds United to join Sheffield United in Premier League July 26, 2020
Leeds United's promotion will mean that for the first time in four years there are two Yorkshire teams in the Premier League. It was back in the 2016-17 season that Middlesbrough and Hull City briefly spent time in the top division. Since then Huddersfield Town were Yorkshire's only representatives for two seasons, while this season Sheffield United have been the only Yorkshire Premier League club.
Sheffield United finished their first season in the Premier League in 13 years in the top half of the table in 9th position after a season in which they scored 39 goals and conceded the same number.
Staying in the Championship next season are Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town. Barnsley will also stay unless in-administration Wigan Athletic successfully appeal a 12-point deduction. Rotherham will join the Championship next season having been promoted from second place in League One, to which bottom-of-table Hull City definitely face relegation.
