Air travel

Airports in and around Yorkshire.

Yorkshire currently has one major airport open, the Leeds Bradford Airport at Yeadon .

Doncaster Sheffield Airport at Finningley near Doncaster , previously known as Robin Hood Airport, is currently closed but with the City of Doncaster Council committed to its reopening.

Other airports are easy to reach by transport links from Yorkshire.

Allow plenty of time to reach the airport, particularly if travelling by car at peak times as there are sometimes congested sections of road along the way.

Both the Yorkshire airports are near railways, the Doncaster airport close to the East Coast Main Line, but neither is connected to them. There are bus journeys connecting the airports to train stations in nearby towns and cities.

For general guidance, typical journey times are shown below based on the fastest routes when there are no delays. Additional time should be added to allow for any delays, particularly at peak commuter hours. Public transport times and journeys may differ on Sundays.

Leeds Bradford Airport

Leeds Bradford Airport is situated at Yeadon , about 7 miles north west of Leeds and about 6 miles north east from Bradford .

The airport originally opened as an aerodrome in 1931, but has since seen major expansion in its operations, now offering national, European, holiday destination and International flights from several operators and handling nearly 3.5m passengers a year.

There is no rail link to the airport, but regular bus services operate to Leeds, Bradford and Harrogate. The airport has premium, short, mid and long stay car parks all within 5 minutes walk or shuttle bus ride from the terminal. Prices for parking are shown on the airport website (see link below).
