Council backs Leeds Bradford Airport expansion plans
February 11, 2021

Leeds Bradford Airport at YeadonPlans for a new replacement terminal building for Leeds Bradford Airport at Yeadon were given the go-ahead by Leeds City Council's City Plans Panel on Thursday February 11.

Approval of the plans, subject to a tightening of conditions, was supported at an online meeting lasting around eight-and-a-half hours.

Meanwhile a second phase of public consultation continued to take place until February 21 on plans to develop a railway station for Leeds Bradford airport, north of Horsforth on the existing line to Harrogate.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority is developing a plan to build a park and ride station about 360 metres south of Bramhope Tunnel on the existing line.

The location is just under a mile from the airport terminal building as closer to the airport would involve the cost of tunnelling. A shuttle bus is likely to be used for the final section of the journey.

The station would also provide 350 park and ride car park spaces. This is aimed at providing better access to the railway as urban transit for local users rather than providing free parking for airport travellers. A new access to the station would be created from Scotland Lane.

Using a train, the journey from the new station into Leeds City station or in the opposite direction to Harrogate would be about 20 minutes.
