King Charles and the Queen Consort visit York Minster for Maundy Thursday service
April 6, 2023
Thousands of people greeted the royal couple as they arrived at and left the Minster just as they did when they were were welcomed to York on a wet day in November for the unveiling of a statue of Queen Elizabeth II on the Minster West Front.
On this occasion it was a brighter day for the visit. During the service The King for the first time conducted the tradition of distributing Maundy Money. The special coins were presented to 74 men and 74 women for outstanding Christian service and for making a difference to the lives of people in their local communities.
On Wednesday, King Charles and Queen Camilla visited food and craft businesses in Malton, North Yorkshire, a town famous across the region for the food markets and festivals it holds, styling itself Yorkshire's Food Capital.
